First Clinical Day

Getting back into the clinical setting is challenging. I am currently in a urgent care, so different from my daily clinical setting. On the first day, I felt as if hundreds of people needed care at the same moment. The practice is quite busy, and a variety of cases walks thru, from runny nose to bulging hernias. 90% of the patients are Latino, and without insurance seeking medical care because they no longer can tolerate the symptoms. As I start this new experience, I can see how different this setting is from primary care, no only because it is fast paced, it is also the variety of patient’s ages, and background. During my first clinical rotation the patient population was younger adult to geriatric patients with chronic diseases such as hypertension, and diabetes mostly; this rotation is different assessing pediatric patients is challenging, especially the dosage for medications.
